But Ranko was allready awake, she had been for hours. She was staring out her window. Ranko said to herself. The youma had been appearing sporaticly for the last few years. She was now ten years old. She was something of an unusual ten year old. As few ten-year-olds have a secret identy. And even fewer are also very powerful Martial Artists. And fewer still can use magic too. Like her prior life, Ranko, then Ranma, had one weird life. Execpt, unlike her prior one, it isn't the insanely powerful Martial Artist of the week, and Fiancee of the day, err... week. No, in Ranko's case, it was the insanely powerful youma. And lots of them. She hears Sakura's alarm going off, and Sakura waking up. "Sakura-san, Ranko-san, breakfast is almost ready!" Otousan calls from downstairs. "Hai!" Ranko calls. With her exelent hearing, she hears Sakura call as well. Ranko asks herself, as she changes from her pajamas into her Tomoeda Elementary uniform. Ranko finishes getting ready, she's heading down the stairs when she hears Sakura saying "Ohayo!" "What were you running around in your room for?" Touya asks Sakura. "I wasn't running!" Sakura retorts, somewhat miffed. "Ohayo." Ranko says, as if she hadn't heard a thing. "It was really noisy. Though." Touya responds to Sakura's retort, while Sakura pulls her chair out from the table. "I was walking NORMALLY." Sakura angrilly retorts, while leaning foreward. "When you walk, is sounds like a kaijuu is jumping around." Touya retorts. "Wouldn't a kaijuu jumping around break the ceiling?" Ranko asks, trying to derail another fight between Sakura and Touya. However, Sakura had allready taken Touya's bait, and was _stomping_ over to Touya. "I am NOT a kaijuu!" Sakura exclaims. Touya places his right hand on his face in a contemplative pose, and, maintaining his grip on his cup of coffee puts it on Sakura's head in such a way as to stop her from moving any closer to him. Ranko says to herself. Sakura finally backs up, and is fuming. Ranko raises an eyebrow as she watches Sakura contemplate something. Ranko says to herself. Ranko adds. "Friendly this morning, aren't we?" Otousan asks as he carries in two trays. "Here you go." Otousan adds, as he sets one in front of Sakura, and the other in front of Ranko, who had taken her seat not long ago. "Itadakimasu!" Ranko and Sakura say, at the same time. "Is it good?" Otousan asks. "Uh huh!" Sakura answers. "Gochisousan." Touya says, as he gets up. "Huh? You're going already?" Sakura asks. "Morning soccer practice." Touya answers. "Itteirasshai." Otousan says to Touya, as he hands Touya his bentou. Ranko comments to herself. As she eats her own food. "Ittekimasu." Touya says, as he walks out the door. "Hey! Wait, wait a minute!" Sakura exclaims, and launches into a demonstration on a method of eathing food that only one person in the house would find slow. "Gochisousama." Sakura says, through a mouthful of food. "That's enough?" Otousan asks, Sakura nods. "Here, Obentou." Otousan says, handing Sakura her lunch. She can hear Sakura leaving. About fourty seconds later, Otousan comes in. "Gochisousama." Ranko says, having finished. "Was it good?" Otousan asks. Ranko nods enthusasticly, and says "Uh huh!" "Here, Obentou." Otousan says, handing Ranko her lunch. Ranko puts her skates on, she sees Otousan holding the gate open for her. "Ittekimasu!" Ranko calls as she skates past her father. "Itteirashai!" Otousan calls after Ranko. Ranko waits until she's out of sight, and then takes to the rooftops, she uses a spatial transfer technique, to exchange her skates for her shoes. She then roofhops some distance, until she's almost in sight of Tomoeda Elementary School. Then she drops to ground level, and just before landing she exchanges her shoes for her skates. She doesn't like using that shortcut, but since she was running late, she had to. Well, late for her, anyway. Ranko just coasted in the front gate, when she heard Yukito's voice. "Bye now, Sakura-chan." She heard Yukito say. Ranko comments to herself. "See you later!" Yukito calls to Sakura, tossing her some candy. Sakura looks at the candy dreamily. "Yukito-san!" Sakura exclaims, happily. "He's smooth." Tomoyo says, surprising Sakura. Ranko decides to head in at this point. ----- "...then we see the face of a boy with his mouth opened like the letter, 'O'." Sensei reads. "I think he was surprised. The magical..." Sensei continues to read. Ranko notices Sakura's zoned out. "What a kawaii picture! What is it?" Ranko hears Tomoyo ask Sakura. "Today...oh, ah..." Sensei starts. "Kinomoto Sakura-san." Sensei says. "Hai?" Sakura asks. "Please read." Sensei says. "Later, okay?" Sakura says to Tomoyo. "...from the 12th line." Tomoyo says to Sakura. Sometimes it bothered Ranko that she could hear every sound that occured nearby. Sure she could turn it off, but that would be turning off one of her early warning systems. And that is something she didn't want to do. Which is why she overheard the entire conversation between Tomoyo and Sakura. Even though it was conducted in whispers, and she's halfway accross the room. "Maybe he thinks it's a magical orange." Sakura reads. "In any case, the butterfly transformed..." Sakura continues to read. ----- After School: Ranko and Sakura head their seperate ways, Ranko doing some shopping, and Sakura heading home. Ranko wasn't really shopping, she was hunting. For a youma she sensed just before school let out. Ranko asks herself. ----- "Tadaima!" Sakura calls, as she opens the front door. She looks at the door to the basement and says "hoe?" (hoe: Sakura's nonsense word, used as a question word, a statement of surprise, and a few other things.) She goes over to the chore board, and reads it. "Fujitaka: I will be home around 9:00 today. Please heat up some curry for dinner. Snacks are in the fridge." "Touya: 4:00 work, 7:00 home." "Sakura: Normal." "Ranko: Normal." "'I will be home at 9:00.' Oh, Daddy's late today." Sakura says to herself. ----- Sakura opens the fridge and looks inside. She's just about to pick something up, when she hears a rumbling sound. "Is someone here?" Sakura asks herself, concerned. She neveriously walks accross the kitchen, when she exits that area she has her baton in hand, maybe as one might hold a sword, if nervious. <...and brother and daddy aren't here now...> Sakura says to herself. Sakura adds to herself. Sakura says to herself. Sakura asks herself. Sakura asks herself, as she peeks around the corner at the basement door. Sakura decides to herself. Sakura adds, as she nerviously walks toward the basement door. Sakura opens the basement door, and looks inside. She quietly descends the stairs, with a number of the steps creaking. Once at the bottom of the staircase she turns on the lights. Sakura peeks around a bookcase, but doesn't see anything. She goes further into the study. She hears the rumbling sound some more. She quickly turns the corner, but sees nothing out of the ordinary. "There's no one here?" Sakura asks herself. She looks around, as if wondering if someone could have hidden in one of the bookcases. One of the books starts to glow. Sakura 'feels' the glowing book's presence, and turns around. She sees the glowing book. The glowing book with 'THE CLOW' written on the spine, in English letters. She walks toward said book, curious. Just as she's about to tuch it, it ceases to glow, surprising Sakura. She picks the book up, and looks at it. She drops her baton, and gasps, she's seen that book before, in her dream. "It's that book." Sakura says to herself. The clasp holding the book closed suddenly opens, surprising Sakura. ----- Ranko finally found that youma she was looking for. It was worse than she had thought at first. This one was a 'queen'. Ranko couldn't use her sword, it would just make a new one from the pieces, and she'd have two to deal with, instead of just one. To make matters worse, if she doesn't kill it, it will create more youma. Fortunetly those wouldn't be queens. Unfortunetly, they would possess the same regeneration ability. Meaning if she sliced it's offspring in half, she would have two. Fortunetly, there was another way to deal with this type. This type is weak against both fire and ki attacks. Ranko asks herself. Ranko decides. "MOUKO TAKABISHA!" Ranko fires one of her oldest ki attacks. Also one of her most powerful, in some respects. It hits the youma, and does disintagrate it. Ranko swears. Appearently, this one wasn't weak against ki. Ranko says to herself. The youma, having repaired the damage, lunges at Ranko, who dodges. Ranko finds herself on the defensive. Ranko exclaims. Ranko almost shouts in her mind. The youma lunges at Ranko again, she dodges, but a little late, as the youma manages to clip her left leg, just above the knee. Blood flows from the wound, even though it's not large. Ranko's aware that she's now working against a clock, one that ticks as her blood leaves her. Ranko engages her cloaking technique, in order to gain some time to think. The youma, realizing that she's vanished, starts to search for her. Ranko quickly bandages the wound, though it won't help if the fight continues much longer. Ranko draws the magical energy needed to cast a spell. The youma senses the buildup of magical energy, and grabs Ranko by her ankle, holding her upside-down. The surprise was enough to make Ranko drop her cloak. "Wha--?!?" Ranko says aloud, such was her surprise. "Any last words, pathetic human?" The youma asks. "Yes, Soaring Flame Descend!" Ranko exclaims, pouring all the magical energy she had gathered into a magical flame. The flame began to consume the youma. The youma screams in agony as the flame consumes it, and releases Ranko. Releases would be better read throws at high velocity into a wall in this case. Ranko hit the wall. Hard. She almost lost consciousness. But, fortunetly she didn't. She jumps to a nearby rooftop, and starts to take stock of her injuries. And numerious they were. Though, that gouge just above her knee was the worst of them, she did have numerious scrapes and undoubtably she'll have a few bruises too. Including her entire right side, as that's the side that hit the wall. Ranko says to herself. Then she catches sight of a nearby clock. Ranko exclaims to herself. ----- Back at the Kinomoto residance: "Hoe?" Sakura asks herself. Inside the book are a bunch of cards. Sakura picks up the top card, and looks at it. "Card?" Sakura asks no-one in paticular, as she looks at the card she's holding. It's an exotic card, with a picture of something that looks vaguely human, and has long white hair on it. Written at the bottom of the card are the words 'THE WINDY', in English letters. "Uin... eeto...." Sakura says as she walks away from the bookshelf she found the book on. "Win..." Sakura continues. "Windy." Sakura says. The card suddenly glows blue, and a magic circle appears under Sakura. Then a wind appears out of no-where. One card blows away, then another, and another, and another, until, even if Sakura were looking, even she wouldn't be able to tell how meny had blown away. The cards vanish through the walls, the ceiling, the bookcases, and just about anything. ----- Ranko lands from her roofhopping, and sees something strange at her home. She happened to arrive as the last of the cards were scattering. Ranko comments to herself. Ranko asks herself. Ranko extends her ki senses. Ranko asks. Ranko comments to herself. ----- Back in the basement of the Kinomoto residance: Sakura drops the book. And colapses to her knees. "What is this?" Sakura asks herself. Unknown to her the book started to glow again. Then she noticed the book glowing. "HOE!" Sakura exclaims. A small thing with wings appears out of the cover of the book. It's golden yellow in color, and looks very much like a stuffed animal. It floats up to a bit above Sakura's head. "How ya doin'!" It says, in greeting. "Hoe?" Sakura asks. As she stares at it, shocked. "Thanks fer wakin' me up." The small stuffed animal says. "An Osaka accent?" Sakura asks. "This book was in Osaka for so long that the accent kinda stuck." The stuffed animal replies, with it's arms crossed. Sakura grabs it out of the air, and starts to search for the battery compartment, or the switch, or both. "Batteries? Where's the switch?" Sakura asks. "Where's the voice coming from?" Sakura asks, as she continues to examine the stuffed animal. Said stuffed animal, tired of being examined like one, breaks free of Sakura's grasp, and lands on the book. "I'm NOT a toy!" The stuffed animal exclaims, rightfully annoyed. "I am the guardian beast of this book, Kerberos!" The stuffed animal, Kerberos exclaims. "Guardian? Kerberos?" Sakura asks. Kerberos gets off the book. "Yeah. I guard the cards in this book so that they don't do bad stuff." Kerberos explains. The book flips up into the air, faces toward Sakura, then lands, still open and facing Sakura. "That's my..." Kerberos trails off. Then he realizes something. Something terriable, the cards are all missing! "There's no cards!" Kerberos exclaims, looking into the book. "Why?" Kerberos asks. "Why?" Kerberos asks again, a tear forming in his eye. "Where'd they all go?" Kerberos asks. "This?" Sakura asks, handing Kerberos the Windy card. "Yeah this! This! This is it!" Kerberos exclaims, happy once again. "...and the other cards?" Kerberos asks. "Well, when I said, 'WINDY,'" Sakura starts. "Uh huh." Kerberos says. "It became really windy," Sakura continues. "Uh huh, uh huh." Kerberos prompts Sakura to continue. "...and they all flew away!" Sakura exclaims, as she puts her hand behind her head, in an embarrassed fashion. "Oh, so that's it!" Kerberos exclaims. Both Sakura and Kerberos start to laugh for some strange reason. Then Kerberos' good mood vanishes, as he realizes something. "NANI?!?!!!!!" Kerberos demands. ----- "Tadaima!" Ranko calls, as she walks in the front door. However, you have to be in the hall or kitchen to hear her. This is because she doesn't call that loudly. She's been compared to the charecter of Ayanami Rei from the anime series Evengelion. In fact, her brother likes to tease her about being like Ayanami Rei. That usually has the effect of making Ranko act like Asuka, or completely ignoring her brother, depending on her mood. Ranko overheard the whole conversation between Kerberos and Sakura. <"My generation can't defend the planet forever, we need to train a new generation to defend it, or when we die, so does the planet."> One of the last things Cologne had said to Ranma plays back in Ranko's head. Ranko says to herself, as she cleans herself up in the bathroom. Ranko adds to herself. She's certain that Oniichan suspects something is up with her. She doesn't know if he knows the truth or not. Ranko had been able to sense some magical ability in her older brother, but not what type, or the strength. ----- Ranko, Touya, and Sakura are seated at the table. Ranko's eating at her normal pace, Touya's eating a bit faster. And Sakura, she's using Saotome eating techniques. "Gochisousama." Sakura says, through her last mouthful of food, as she gets up from her seat. Sakura goes to the fridge, and gets out a snack, of the dessert type, before dashing upstairs. "Where are you going with that?" Touya asks Sakura. "I'm going to eat it while I study in my room." Sakura replies. Ranko and Touya eat in silance for a few minutes. "Gochisousama." Ranko says, as she finishes, and takes her empty trey into the kitchen. She heard Touya say "Gochisousan." Ranko says to herself. Ranko goes to her room. ----- A few minutes later: Ranko hears a knock on her door. She opens it, and her brother is there. "Did you hit your head on something?" Ranko asks, shocked. "I didn't, Ayanami." Touya retorts. "What happened to you today, anyway?" Touya asks. "What are you talking about?" Ranko asks. "Well, you've got a bandage just above your knee, and you're favoring one leg." Touya comments. "Or am I mistaken?" Touya asks. "I'm fine." Ranko retorts. "Really, one of these days you'll get killed if you keep fighting those demons." Touya says. Ranko manages to hide her surprise. Ranko looks out her window. "I know." She says. Before turning back toward Touya. "But if I don't do this, who will?" "I would." Touya says, looking out the window. "You probably wouldn't last five minutes against the one I fought today, or even most of the ones I fight." Ranko retorts. Touya snorts. "Why do you do this?" Ranko stares out the window for a few minutes, Touya turns to leave. "Her name was Akane." Ranko says. Touya stops dead in his tracks. "Wha--?" Touya asks. Ranko had never been this open, even before Okaasan died. Touya couldn't remember hearing about any classmates of Ranko's dying, nor anyone named Akane dying any time recently. "She was my Fiancee." Ranko continues, as if Touya hadn't interupted. "She died because I wasn't strong enough." Ranko says, then turns back to the window. "Ranko, it wasn't your fault." Touya says, trying to be reassuring. Ranko turns from the window, and looks right at Touya. "If I had been just a little faster, she would be alive today!" Ranko retorts. Then turns back toward the window. ----- Ranko notices a strong wind. A really strong one. Ranko says to herself. "Later." Ranko jumps out her window, and hits the ground running. ----- Ranko sees Sakura jump onto the back of the giant bird, then tumble a bit, but she manages to stop herself. Sakura seems to have a little trouble with the card. Before managing to use the Windy card, which wraps around the Fly card, as a ribbon or chain. Causeing Fly to be grounded, literally. "Return to thy true form!" Sakura exclaims, her magic circle appearing again. "CLOW CARD!" Sakura exclaims, raising the sealing wand. "Way to go, Sakura!" Kerberos exclaims. "I thought I'd die!" Sakura exclaims, crying a bit. "See, you're the Card Captor I anticipated!" Kerberos exclaims, and Sakura stops crying. "Hey! I never said I'd do it!" Sakura exclaims. "These different experiences will build character." Kerberos says, sagely. Well, as sagely as a stuffed animal can say something, anyway. Then ruins the appearance by starting to laugh. "Well, you've captured the card. Let's use it!" Kerberos exclaims. "What can it do?" Sakura asks, as she starts to stand up. "Just try it!" Kerberos exclaims. "FLY!" Sakura activates the card, and wings appear on the sealing wand. ----- "I hope this isn't too much for you, Sakura." Ranko says. "I have to take care of the youma, I hope you can handle the cards." Ranko adds. Both statements are said to herself, rather than anyone else. ---------- End Chapter One: Author's notes: I know, I cut the episode up quite a bit, and some of the dialog is taken directly from the first episode. I guess I may have overdone it a bit on the japanese words, but I felt that in meny places, they would fit better than any English 'equivalant'. Odd, this story started out as a fusion, rather than a reality fusion. (There _is_ a differance, in my book, anyway. In a fusion one or more charecter(s) from one (or more) series replace one (or more) charecter(s) in another series. For example, Ranma being cast as Sailor Moon, or Sailor Pluto, as in totally replacing the charecter. Nibun No Senshi is not a fusion in my book, it's a crossover, whereas Bishojo Senshi Sailor Ranma is a fusion. A reality fusion is where the past events of two different storylines tie into each other. (As Saffron in Can It Get Any Worse, for example.) This story fuses the Ranma 1/2 universe, and the Card Captor Sakura universe. Hopefully without too meny problems.) 09/29/2002 200 lines 10/02/2002 588 lines 10/13/2002 591 lines 10/30/2002 592 lines (corrections) 02/23/2003 599 lines
